US Open to have richest purse in history (AP)

The U.S. Open will offer the richest purse in tennis history, with its singles champions each earning a record $1.7 million. The U.S. Tennis Association said Thursday the purse for the year’s final major will top $22.6 million, an increase of $1 million from last season. The purse for men’s and women’s prize money is up nearly 7 percent from a year ago.
